What is the least expensive way to re-side a house?

I need to put new siding on our house and wondered what is the least expensive option? Vinyl? Wood? What?

Vinyl’s rather inexpensive—until you add the labor. It’s very easy to do, so if you’re handy and can do it yourself, you could save a ton of money!

If you’re doing it yourself, I would say stucco. Nail on tarpaper and stucco wire. Rent a mixer and mix up stucco (check on line for the simple formulae) and smear it on. It takes two coats – a “scratch coat” and the second coat which may be colored so you never have to paint. It looks good and is a lot more fire-resistant than vinyl. I did my cabin with stucco and would now be willing to tackle a house – a one-story house anyway.

Go to Lowe’s and ask them. They will tell you what is the least expensive and how to install it.
