I paid a contractor $2,650 for pergo and cermamtic tile floors and he has done half it’s been four weeks.?

He hasn’t shown up to finish the rest and it’s been four weeks, is there anything I can do with no contract? We do have the check he cashed as proof that we paid him.

Call him and ask what the problem is. It could be he has an emergency at another job. Whatever the reason, ask him when he expects to return to your job, and if he doesn’t provide a satisfactory date or doesn’t show up on the date he sets (and has not contacted you to explain why) file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, the state’s contractor licensing board, and the state’s attorney general.

You want to at least give him a chance to offer an explanation and a completion date before you proceed to file a complaint. If the attorney general’s office determines he has a pattern of such conduct, you can have the state go after him with a consumer fraud criminal complaint.
