How do you fix the combustion shutoff system on a hot water heater when it is tripped?

The hot water heater will not stay lit. You get it lit and when you turn the water temperature up, it just goes out.

The manufacturer of your water heater should have a website and I help link.
Be careful in making repairs if you are not sure of the steps.
It could be your are wanting to exceed the allowed temp.

on the new type of water heaters they are designed so that if any combustable fumes get near or in WH, they will not get out and cause fire or explosion. They have a internal vent to let combustable air in and if it gets clogged which I have had, they will do the same as yours, I’ve had one that the main burned worked for 5 minutes before shutting down. If WH is not in garage, open burner door by removing screws or nuts. Pull door away from WH so that combustable air can enter there.NOTE; do not store anything like gas of flamable liquids near WH

If it is LP or Natural gas it is probably the thermocouple has gone bad that controls the gas valve to ensure the pilot light is lite
