How do I clean/remove concrete from antique cobblestones?
I have a bunch of old cobblestones from a Boston street and I want to clean them up to reuse. They have old concrete on them and I don’t want to screw it up.

Chip off as much concrete as you can, the more the better.
Then mix 10 parts of water with 1 part of hydrochloric acid, and pour it on the concrete stains or whatever remains of the concrete on the cobblestones.
Wash with plenty of water when you are finished.
The number of applications of water/acid mix will depend on how much concrete you can remove first with a hammer and chisel.

Pool acid (hydrochloric acid) will definitely eat away cement. This is what is used to clean up cement from face bricks.
Suggest you experiment with the dilution of the pool acid until you get a mix that dissolves the cement but does not damage the cobblestones.
When the acid comes into contact with the cement it will start fizzing away. Watch out for the acid it is dangerous stuff. Use gloves and wash stones off well. The fumes will also attack any metal in the area, so do it in the open in an area well ventilated.
